A Wholistic Home
70For an Individual or a Family
I actually believe that even an individual is a family, because the individual has all the components of a family, internally. Within us we have the patterns of what we learned from our parents or major caregivers; those we spent or spend most of our time around, when we were growing up, and now. We have heard of our inner child, so it only stands to reason that we have an inner family as well! When we start working on understanding our psychology as part of our Holistic Lifestyle Plan, this becomes quite clear. For now, let us think of our home and how to make it a wholistic home.
Every person, regardless of whether or not they have a religion or philosophy, has a belief system. We are a spiritual being; a soul, of spiritual, mental, emotional and physical awarenesses, with a responsibility to connect with and care for the natural world of creation. So, how we think about and feel about where we live and the places we spend time are an important component of our wholistic life.
As part of my belief system, among many other attributes such as cleanliness, beauty, and order that is not obsessive, our attitudes and our daily care of self, our homes and how we live in them make a huge difference in our sense of spirituality. I believe our spirituality is our sense of our place in the Universe, our connection with our Higher Power, or however you choose to see your self as part of the big picture. And that because we are such an important part of the "whole pie", we deserve to feel good no matter where we are each moment of the day.
The energies of the world we engage in each day tend to take us from that sense of unity and knowing of importance of our place in the Creation. Wouldn't it be great to feel that wholeness, that "centeredness" in the heart, that joy and peace, every moment?
We need to make it priority to develop and enhance our relationship within (with our soul), with others, as well as without (with other living creatures and the environment). Let us practice how to genuinely play our part of making the Universe a better place, and teach all children to do the same, by being an example their soul will want to learn from.
As genuine and loving souls it is good to show our sense of wholeness, of being part of something bigger than ourselves, for our own health and that of others. It is good to pass on to others (in words and/ or just in actions of being who you are) the beliefs and values that create better health on all levels of being. Let us welcome that sense of wholeness; where better to begin than at home. Be the living example, take the time, it is worth it; you are worth it.
Here are some ideas for bringing wholeness into your home. Choose one or two to get started and consider that doing each thing is creating your unity with the Universe, yourself and your family. That sense of unity is a foundation stone for health.
- Make a physical space that you can use for contemplation, meditation, affirmations or prayer. Let everyone know that this is the quiet space for anyone that wants to use it or share it with another for that purpose.
- Say a blessing at meals, thanking the Universe (God, nature, etc) for providing the food, and the gathering of other souls to share it when that is the circumstance.
- Take some time each day to focus on order and cleanliness of your home or work space. Teach children it is an honor and responsibility to do so.
- Listen to beautiful music that is relaxing and brings a calm and restive joy. Sing together this type of music with others; do art projects that provide the same feelings.
- Have nature in your home or work space; plants, fish, pets, windows looking upon the outdoors. And breath fresh air; open the window (wide for a rush, or open a small amount for continual flow) for fresh air as often as possible, regardless of the time of year.
- Read or watch uplifting content that shows respect for others and the environment and all life.
-
Relax and take the moment to heart. Affirm positive goodness and beauty. Focus only on that for a while.
It is good to remember that as Booker T. Washington said, "Success is not measured by the position one has reached in life, rather by the obstacles overcome while trying to succeed".
We are all spiritual by nature and are born with a deep devotion to the goodness of the Universe (God) and Creation; it is healthy to foster our innate spiritual nature and unlock our divine potential so that we may become more of that goodness each day. Practice creating and feeling that Presence of Goodness, that life-force of Love around us, by bringing beautiful pictures, objects, sounds, thoughts, words and actions into our homes and places we spend time.
The greatest gift we can give our souls and the souls of all children, is learning the habit of recognizing when we need to seek that heart centered focus, and taking action to do so; be it a few deep breaths taken during a rushed moment of the day, or a half an hour, or more, at home in your quiet space.
